How do I update my controller's firmware?
This video shows you how to update the firmware on your controller.
My controller was programmed to Cone 6, but it didn't stop at the top temperature?
Our controller has built in programming that if it sees that it is firing slower or faster than the final programmed rate of rise in the cone fire that it will adjust the final cone temperature. If it goes past the top temperature in the cone table, it may be because the kiln was firing slightly faster than programmed.
You manual says I need to do a first fire and to do it according to the manufacturer's specs. What are the specs I need to do for a first fire?
Please contact the manufacturer of the kiln for what first firing specs they recommend. We only manufacturer the kiln controller and the first firing specs change based on kiln.
What is the difference between the Genesis Mini and the Genesis Spark?
The dimensions for the Spark and the Mini are different; the Spark is smaller and is a direct upgrade for our 3Key controllers The user interface and screens are different on the Mini & Spark. The Mini can also use a current sensor, where we are not including that as an option for the Spark The Mini can use Type K, R & S thermocouples where the Spark works with Type K only The price is different - this is reflective of some additional parts on the Mini. I have a problem with my controller - help!
We're sorry to hear you're having problems. In order for us to help you troubleshoot more, please email us with as much of the below information:
Kiln Information Kiln Type & Manufacturer Kiln voltage, amperage, and top temperature (you can find this on the specification plate near where the cord connects to the kiln): When was the last good firing? Controller Information Controller Type (e.g. Genesis 2.0, Genesis Spark)Controller Age Controller Serial Number Are you getting an error? Maintenance History When did you last change relays? When did you last change elements? Have you checked there is power to the kiln? Additional Information What are is being firing (e.g. ceramics, glass, steel, something else)? What program was run? (Did you fire to a specific cone number, preloaded glass or heat treat program, a custom program?) How was the kiln loaded? (Very empty, half full, full to the brim) How many times do you open the kiln during a firing?
Can I use these for glass firings?
Yes! These controllers includes preset glass firing profiles for different types of glass work including Slump, Tac Fuse, Full Fuse, and Cast firings.
What is preheat time and why should I use it?
Preheat time allows the kiln to warm up gradually before the main firing. If Novice mode is on, we include None (for thin, bone-dry pieces), 4 hours (for thicker, slightly wet pieces), 8 hours (for thick, wet pieces), and 12 hours (for hand-built or children's pieces). If Novice is off, you can include a custom preheat time of your choice.
