Why Connect Your Genesis Controller to WiFi?
The Genesis controller’s WiFi functionality opens up a world of possibilities for kiln users. With WiFi enabled, you can:
- Receive software updates as soon as they’re available.
- Monitor your kiln remotely with the KilnAid app, which allows you to track firing progress and receive error notifications in real time.
However, network configurations can sometimes make connecting your Genesis controller to WiFi a challenge. Here’s how to troubleshoot common issues and get your controller connected.
Common WiFi Connection Issues and Fixes
1. Weak Signal Strength
A poor WiFi signal can prevent your Genesis controller from connecting to the network. Ensure your kiln is located in an area with strong WiFi coverage.
Solution:
- Move your kiln closer to the router or WiFi access point.
- Consider using a WiFi extender to boost the signal strength in your kiln room.
2. Incorrect Password
If the password for your WiFi network is entered incorrectly, the Genesis controller will not be able to connect.
Solution:
- Double-check the password you’ve entered on the Genesis controller.
- Ensure there are no typos or extra spaces.
- If you’re unsure of your WiFi password, check your router settings or contact your internet service provider.
3. Password Length
Older versions of the Genesis controller software only support WiFi passwords with 15 characters or fewer. If your password exceeds this limit, the controller may fail to connect.
Solution:
- Temporarily change your WiFi password to one with 15 characters or fewer.
- Update your Genesis controller to the latest software version, which supports passwords up to 30 characters. Once updated, you can revert to your original password.
How to Update Your Genesis Controller
Updating your Genesis controller is essential for ensuring compatibility with longer WiFi passwords and accessing the latest features. To update:
- Connect your Genesis controller to a WiFi network with a password of 15 characters or fewer.
- Go to Menu > Configuration > Update Firmware. Updating firmware will NOT affect your firing programs.
- Once updated, reconnect to your original WiFi network.
